“Having the opportunity to study and explore music is not a privilege; it is a vital part of a broad and ambitious curriculum.” -  Rt Hon Nick Gibb MP Minister of State for School Standards

Music enables pupils to access a wider cultural world.  Positive musical experiences are directly linked to improved mental well-being and the expression of emotions.  At Orchid Vale, we aim to provide pupils with the vocabulary of music which enables them to evaluate and develop their knowledge and understanding of musical techniques.  Through the use of Charanga, we build skills through repetition and addition of new concepts as the children get older.  Children are exposed to a wide range of musical styles and are taught to perform and create in a variety of ways.

Music Intent

Musician of the Moment

At Orchid Vale, we enjoy a ‘Musician of the Moment’ every term. The whole school has many opportunities throughout the term to listen to a piece of music. We have opportunities to discuss the piece of music and explore the artist. This means that we will become familiar with a range of music styles and be able to name some musicians from different moments in history.

Click below to find out which musician we are enjoying at the moment!

Performance at Orchid Vale

At Orchid Vale, we offer our pupils a variety of opportunities to perform, including to our whole school!

Orchid Vale's Got Talent is a yearly event, showcasing some of our brightest stars and their musical talent.

What our children think...

"I love Music because we get to play the intstruments and sing together!"

"Music is fun because we get to perform in loads of places like Young Voices and OVGT"

"In Music, we listen to cool songs and talk about the lyrics and the instruments - I get to sing along to them too!"

Charanga

Teaching in our school

In our school, we use Charanga music, from Reception to Year 6. This is an online music service, covering a variety of musical genres and decades.
