“Be who you are and say what you feel, because in the end those who matter don't mind and those who mind don't matter.” - Dr Seuss

PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education) underpins all other subject areas.  We teach PSHE explicitly but also through the way we treat each other and through learning from life experiences (both our own and those of other people).  As a school, we teach many values but have chosen our core values to be respect, resilience, courage, kindness, responsibility and friendship.

How will this help me when I am an adult?

Learning about how to keep safe and healthy prepares our children for adult life in the modern world.  They learn about what it means to be a successful and happy citizen, making choices that determine their future.

The children learn how to express their opinions, whilst listening to others and showing respect for the opinions of others.

In the future, a job involving PSHE could be:

  • Mental health practitioner
  • Teacher
  • Social worker
  • Leader

Jigsaw PSHE

At Orchid Vale, we use the Jigsaw PSHE scheme. This scheme is taught from Reception through to Year 6 and covers a variety of topics.

These topics include:

  • Being Me In My World
  • Celebrating Differences
  • Dreams and Goals
  • Healthy Me
  • Relationships
  • Changing Me

Jigsaw PSHE also supports the wellbeing and mindfulness of our pupils and encourages reflection.

Spiritual, moral, social and cultural education is taught through a range of different media.  Pupils are encouraged to have a voice and carry out roles within the development of our school.

Supporting PSHE at home

We believe in supporting the mental health and well-being of all members of our school community. We know that sometimes children may need extra support with this and our webpage has resources to support many areas of well-being and mental health.

What our pupils say:

"PSHE is really fun because I get to talk about lots of different things"

"In PSHE, we learn about people around the world and their rights"

"Sometimes in PSHE, we talk aobut what we want to be when we grow up and it makes you think!"
